Saddled with a power play that was clicking at an anemic 13.9 percent success rate, the Baby Pens made a significant midseason adjustment to their strategy with the man-advantage, stationing two forwards at the net front instead of one.
The results have been dramatic. Since New Year's Day, the Baby Pens' power-play success rate has soared to 33 percent. Defenseman Alex Grant, who has thrived taking shots from the point with significant traffic in front of opposing goaltenders, is second among AHL defensemen in power-play scoring with 21 points.
